The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre is part of Sydney Harbour YHA in The Rocks heritage precinct of Sydney.
The centre facilitates hands-on archaeology educational experiences and opens the archaeological site to the public.
Stage 2 students from OLOL went to The Big Dig earlier this week and worked as archaeologists to excavate artefacts from the simulated archaeological dig, then used their investigative skills to discover what life was really like for the convicts and early settlers who lived in The Rocks during the 1800s.

Week 5 in Year 6. Remembrance Day, 11/11: we gathered as a community of faith to remember and honour all those who have served and sacrificed for peace - in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping. We remember the men and women who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom, and we prayed for those who continue to serve today. After our reflection, we made artworks.14 Nov 2025

In Week 4, the Year 4 students attended Longneck Lagoon Environmental Education Centre at Maralya to support our Integrated Unit 'Earth and Space'. Although it was a hot day, there was lots of valuable learning and fun to be had. Hands-on activities included: the lowdown on soil, investigating erosion, and soil and stone investigations. Everyone enjoyed the scenic walk along the bush track to Longneck Lagoon, and were excited to see a rabbit, kangaroo, bugs, and birdlife along the way.
