The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre is part of Sydney Harbour YHA in The Rocks heritage precinct of Sydney.
The centre facilitates hands-on archaeology educational experiences and opens the archaeological site to the public.
Stage 2 students from OLOL went to The Big Dig earlier this week and worked as archaeologists to excavate artefacts from the simulated archaeological dig, then used their investigative skills to discover what life was really like for the convicts and early settlers who lived in The Rocks during the 1800s.

Zing Interschool Challenge 2026 WOW what a fantastic night. Lots of great dancing and fun. Everyone was well prepared and looked the part. Well Done to those who won ribbons and the whole group for winning the Hip Hop routine. You should all be very proud of yourselves. Yesterday, our Year 2 students led a beautiful class liturgy, connecting deeply with their current learning cycle and exploring what it means to love our neighbours through kindness, compassion, and service. Thank you to the many family members who joined us. It was a special opportunity to come together in prayer, reflection, and community.
