For Refugee Week on Thursday 23rd June we welcomed a special guest from Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Australia, with lived experience, to share their journey with our students from Years 3 to 6. This was a great insight for our students to understand how millions of ordinary people live through extraordinary times.
This term the Faith In Action Team created an initiative called ‘Rainbow Day’. Students dressed as different colours of the rainbow, each colour corresponded with a faithful action they had to complete. Students did a great job at living their faith and acting like Jesus. This day also raised funds for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. This is important to support people living in homelessness, particularly now that the weather is getting chilly. Thanks to your donations, Our Lady of Lourdes was able to raise a massive $670.00! Thank you parents, carers, teachers and students for getting involved and making a real difference!
On the 19th of May Miss Brownlow, Ms Armstrong and selected Stage 3 students attended Lifted Live Jnr. This was an amazing day organised by the Parramatta Mission Team. The students had the opportunity to participate in song, testimony, discussion and prayer with Melbourne-based Catholic singer Gen Bryant. The day was centred around the theme of Pentecost. Stage 3 students were invited to reflect on times the Holy Spirit has been present in their lives and listened to the experiences of others. It was an amazing experience that left each person feeling enriched and filled with the Holy Spirit.
On Friday 6th May, the staff and students at OLOL will be celebrating Mother’s Day and all mother’s, grandmothers, aunts and special women are invited to attend. 9:15 am - Mass in the Church 10:30 am - Open classrooms 11:00 am - Morning tea provided for adults by the parent group. Kindy and Year 1 students and teachers will be leading the Mass. We look forward to celebrating with you all.
Last Thursday Our Lady of Lourdes hosted a barbeque to welcome the newest additions to our OLOL Community - our Kindergarten and Year One students and their families. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces. Parents had a chance to meet one another and our Kindergarten and Year 1 students played with new found friends, teachers, and Year 6 student leaders. The outdoor games, dress ups and colouring corner proved popular with all students and a delicious sausage sizzle was catered for by our Parent Group. A big thank you to our Parent Group for organising the barbeque and to our Student Leaders for helping to make the night such a fun and memorable one. Thank you to the parents of the student leaders who enabled their children to attend. Finally, a big thank you to Ms Byrnes, Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Messina, Mrs Demeterio, Miss Douglas, Miss Lee, Miss Mortimer, Mrs Willemse and Miss Schrader for their hard work in preparing the games and activities. It was a wonderful night!
In the 1st week back at school in Term 2, we will be celebrating the Easter Mass in the Church with the students in our parish of Our Lady of Lourdes at 9:15am. This Mass has a long and lively tradition and due to COVID, we have been unable to celebrate as a community in the church over the last two years up until now. We are very excited to begin this tradition again and we are looking forward to celebrating with families who are able to attend.
This year as Easter is on 17th April, we celebrate Holy Week the week after school finishes. However, at OLOL, the students will be reflecting on Holy Week events in school Week 11. From Tuesday- Friday, all grades will help prepare an aspect of the key events of Holy Week in a Liturgy for the school. These Liturgies will be live streamed for parents who cannot attend. Please go to our Gallery to see the wonderful photos of the events of Holy Week.
On Friday 11th March OLOL had our Project Compassion Fundraising Event, "A Shoe In". The students learnt about children their age who do not own shoes, and need to walk over 10 kilometres each day to collect water for their families. The students then found the oldest shoe in their household, they wrote about the history of their shoes and drew an amazing picture of them. These artworks were paraded around the school to help raise awarenessand funds for these people in need. It was great to see all students getting involved and having parents back at school again for the first time in a long time, to watch the event. So far we have raised a massive $460! Thank you to everyone who participated in the event and a huge thanks to those who have donated. You can still donate here: https://fundraise.projectcompassion.org.au/ourladyoflourdessevenhills
It was so wonderful to finally be able to start our Year 6 and Kindergarten Kinder Buddy program last Friday. Year 6 came in to Kindergarten to do some reading with them and stayed to have morning tea with their buddies. The kindergarten students were so excited to meet their special new friends. 🥰
